Historic Stone Town Walking Tour

A city frozen in time.

Stone Town is a melting pot of African, Arab, Indian, and European influences. The streets are too narrow for cars, so we explore on foot, winding through the labyrinth of alleys, bazaars, and grand Arab mansions.

Key Stops:

  • The Old Slave Market (Anglican Cathedral): A sobering and important look at Zanzibar’s dark history as a slave trading hub.
  • Freddie Mercury’s House: See the childhood home of the Queen frontman (born Farrokh Bulsara).
  • The Zanzibar Doors: Learn why some doors have brass spikes (Indian influence) and others have Quranic scripts (Arab influence).
  • Jaws Corner: Stop for a local coffee and see where the old men play Bao (the local board game).
  • Darajani Market: The chaotic, colorful, smelly, and wonderful main market.

Wear comfortable shoes! This is a walking adventure through history.
