Mikumi National Park "Little Serengeti" Day Trip

Maximum Safari, Minimum Travel: Mikumi is the fourth largest park in Tanzania but the most accessible from Zanzibar. You can fly out in the morning, enjoy a full game drive, and be back at your hotel for dinner.

The Mkata Floodplain: Often compared to the Serengeti, this open horizon is perfect for spotting wildlife. You don’t have to hunt through thick bush; the animals are right there. It is famous for the “Mikumi Giants”—elephants and buffalo that roam in huge herds.

The Tree-Climbing Lions: Keep your eyes on the trees! Mikumi’s lions are unique in that they often climb trees to escape the heat or sticky mud during the rains.

Hippo Pools: The park is home to a massive population of hippos. Your guide will take you to the dedicated hippo pools to watch them wallow and interact.
